Is Emma Stone Going To Feature As Spider-Gwen? Find Out Here
While there are no plans for a Spider-Gwen movie at this time, Sony was still reportedly planing Spider-Man spin-offs including an unnamed, female-lead Spider-Man spin-off. Yes, women have appeared in superhero movies, but usually only as part of a team (see Black Widow in The Avengers or several members of the X-Men). Mind you, it’s highly unlikely to star Emma Stone, but you go with the Gwen Stacy you have.
Gwen Stacy mash-ups don’t stop there; once her Spider-Gwen series gets wrapped up she will step into Deadpool’s shoes and re-enter the Marvel Universe with her comic debut as Gwenpool in December.
Vulture’s fantasy trailer, which was directed and edited by Alex Coulombe, is quite an elaborate affair, culling footage from various Spider-Man movies and combining that with clips of other Emma Stone films, including Easy A and Birdman. Cosplayer Julianne Cancalosi acts as stand-in for Stone for the action scenes.
Spider-Gwen is a mash up character, a combination of Spiderman and Gwen Stacy, who has only lived in comics and on the Internet buzz.
It certainly doesn’t hurt that Spider-Gwen looks like it would climax with a giant robotic vulture destroying buildings in New York City while Gwen and Captain Stacey rush to stop it. (Maybe that allusion would show up in a Spider-Gwen sequel?) We’re also wondering what Spider-Gwen’s relationship with her now spider-powerless but still brainy boyfriend Peter Parker would be like.
