Woman whose eye was glued shut gets medical treatment
It’s hard to think of a more fitting example than this piece of horrifying news coming out of Florida: a women’s eye has been glued shut after someone mistook a bottle of super glue for her eye drops. Eek! She called to a friend for help, but instead of coming back with eye drops, the friend returned with a small bottle of fingernail glue – a product that can be used to apply artificial nails or tips.
The glue immediately sealed her eye closed.
Gaydos returned to the doctor’s office Wednesday but was turned away because she did not have money to pay for additional treatment, she said. A doctor treated the eye with antibiotic salve and ointment, but told Gaydos that surgery might be needed to save the eye.
“It’s stuck to my eyelids and my eyeball, and it really hurts”, she told the station in her first interview.
Dr. Pankaj Gupta, assistant professor of ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, said the situation would have resolved itself over time if Gaydos had not received treatment.
“He said I should get my sight back, and not have permanent damage”, she said.
After her legend was recorded on a broadcast channel, Gaydos attained a voice call typically from… “He put Lidocaine (a local numbing agent) above and below my eye and just pulled on it until it finally opened”, Gaydos told WPBF. She is scheduled for a procedure on Friday to get the glue scraped off her cornea.
