UCLA Punter Channels His Inner Roethlisberger; Gets Arrested For Rape
Mora told reporters Wednesday that he planned to give Searl more opportunities in the coming weeks, saying “He has worked hard and has earned it”.
A football player at the University of California, Los Angeles has been arrested on suspicion of raping a female student after an off-campus party past year, police said on Friday, and he was quickly suspended from the team. The two left together later that same evening to go to her house.
Searl was arrested without incident – and has since been released on $300,000 bail.
Searl – a punter and redshirt sophomore from Irvine – was allowed to play the 2014 Bruins season and is on the team for this season, at least until his arrest. He accompanied the woman to a nearby residence, where she fell asleep and woke to Searl sexually assaulting her, police said.
The LAPD said the case will be taken to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office on Tuesday. His initial court appearance is scheduled for October 29.
The investigation took almost a year – apparently in conjunction with the UCLA police, officials said. “Due to the ongoing police investigation, we are unable to discuss this matter further at this time”, Mora said. He punted five times against Arizona State in Week 5 for an average of 39 yards a punt.
Searl’s arrest was on three counts of suspicion of rape.
