Hunt is on for new Milk Tray Man
Milk Tray, the 100-year-old chocolate-box brand created by Cadbury, is celebrating its centenary by bringing back its iconic mascot, the death-defying delivery man. Only this time, it could also be the Milk Tray Woman.
Delivering chocolates with no thought for his personal safety, the Bond-esque hero dodged sharks, jumped bridges and flew helicopters in a series of adverts beginning in the 1960s.
“Our search for a modern-day leading character is open to anyone that considers themselves to be thoughtful yet daring, and we can’t wait to find this someone”. The new Milk Tray man will go that extra mile to ensure a successful delivery.
James Coombes, who made his first appearance as the Milk Tray Man in 1987 [Cadbury].
The original tagline was “And all because the lady loves Milk Tray”.
As times have changed since the original ad aired in 1968, the new recruit – whether a man or a woman – must combine a sense of adventure and daring with an understanding that ‘gestures of romance, friendship and even kindness can take many forms’.
The search is on! The victor will get a one-year contract. Six actors played the Milk Tray Man, including Gary Myers, James Coombes, Alan Riley and Ged Allen (above, in a 1989 ad).
