Hawks’ Sefolosha found not guilty in NYC incident
Sefolosha was found not guilty of misdemeanor obstructing government administration, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
The Swiss national says he was moving up the block and trying to give a beggar money when officers grabbed him.
The six-person jury asked to see video of the confrontation during deliberations. Antic’s charges were dropped in the September hearing. Sefolosha appears to be limping as he is led away by officers.
But prosecutors presented a different theory, arguing Sefolosha acted entitled as he slowly departed the 1Oak nightclub.
“The police don’t get to tell the defendant how to play basketball”, an assistant district attorney, Francesca Bartolomey, said in her summation.
Sefolosha remains undecided about whether to pursue a civil case against the New York City police department.
“I wanted the truth to come out, and justice to come out”, he said.
Spiro, the defence lawyer, has suggested Sefolosha, who is black, was targeted because of his race.
On cellphone videos introduced into evidence, Caster is shown pulling Sefolosha’s right arm, while Dongvort and other officers pulled his left arm.
After undergoing surgery last April, Sefolosha said he hopes to be ready to start the season on October. 28.
Sefolosha’s leg has healed well and he’s participated in training camp activities, although on a limited basis.
