Wimbledon 2015: Federer dismantles Murray to reach 10th Wimbledon final

Roger Federer has reached the Wimbledon men’s finals by beating Briton Andy Murray in straight sets yesterday.

They have met twice at Wimbledon with Federer winning a semi-final in 2012 on his way to his most recent major triumph and Djokovic gaining revenge in last year’s final.

Despite a strong first set, it seemed to have taken its toll on the Frenchman, who was blown out of the water by the Serbian in the second and third sets. The match was actually a lot closer than the score, but Gasquet’s first serve killed him. The pressure builds throughout the set that way. I’ll be OK for the next match. I was doing fine up to the end of the third set. One more win would make Federer the first man with eight titles at The Championships, as the grass-court tournament first held in 1877 is known around these parts.

“I know how I can beat him but this is a different occasion”, Federer said.

“It’s been tough. Andy has been playing very well for the season”, a smiling Federer said.

Murray looked more confident this game serving well as he wins four straight points to win the game.

“He serves better than me, returns better than me”.

“I give credit to Andy Murray for being able to answer the ‘how awesome is Roger Federer?’ question so quickly”. So eager was the expectation inside the All England Club that security guards closed access to Murray mound before the match began, roping off the front of the grassy hill with the tournament’s big screen and barring access to its stairwells.

LONDON: Richard Gasquet eloquently summed up what it feels like to be an also ran at Wimbledon on Friday after an elastic-limbed Novak Djokovic bounced the Frenchman out of the All England Club in the semi-finals.

In a scoreline that does not represent their tense and ferocious duel on Centre Court, Federer claimed the match 7-5, 7-5, 6-4 in just over two hours. “He’s one of the people that actually made me a better player“, Djokovic said, after setting up a second successive final with the seven-times champion who he beat in a five-set thriller 12 months ago. Murray and his supporters had not given up hope at two sets down, believing that his fitness could tell against the older man. Unfortunately, the little matter of quality came into it as well and the Swiss allowed no drop in his astonishing standard on the day. He put in 85% of his first serves, hit 23 winners and just three unforced errors in that first frame. It came with Federer leading 5-4.

Ex- India cricket captain Sachin Tendulkar, current Indian cricket skipper Virat Kohli and ex- Wimbledon champions Bjorn Borg, Rod Laver and Lindsay Davenport were also among the guests.

A sublime backhand to move 30-0 ahead in the ninth game was just one of the countless awe-inspiring efforts produced by Federer, and it was enough to help him see out another tremendous showing on Centre Court.
