Power of Pink: breast cancer awareness
For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, one of Fort Lauderdale’s busiest streets will be painted pink and renamed Pink Drive. Longtime breast cancer survivors and those newly diagnosed, came out in force to help spread awareness about the disease affecting so many women and men, worldwide.
Red Roses, £85 for 100ml, is one of Jo Malone’s most popular scents and throughout October, £20 from the sale of every bottle will go to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Dr. Samir Khalif, Director of GRU Cancer Center claims, “The earlier you discover cancer, the higher probability for it to be cured”.
The pink flag of the Breast Cancer Alliance was unfurled to a brisk breeze Thursday and raised outside of Town Hall where it will remain through October.
“We’ve had a lot of local charities, survivors, and people who support breast cancer thank us for doing something that’s an outward sign of support”, said Nelson.
“It was pretty scary just wondering if it was going to happen to me or my girls or anyone else”, said Beal. “And it might help them get through it too”. About 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime.

Unfortunately, African-American women still face delays in follow-up care after an abnormal mammogram. In fact, when breast cancer is diagnosed early (at a localized stage), 99 percent of women survive for five years or more.
