Becky Watts was murdered because of killers unnatural interest in attractive
Teenager Becky Watts was murdered and dismembered by her stepbrother and his girlfriend in a “sexually motivated” attack, a court has heard.
Becky vanished from her family home in Crown Hill, Bristol on February 19 and was reported missing the following day.
Nathan Matthews, 28, and Shauna Hoare, 21, deny murder.
“In addition to their apparent dislike of Rebecca Watts, there is good reason to believe there was also a sexual motive behind the scheme, arising from a shared unnatural interest in attractive teenage females, and that a foreseeable conclusion to that plan being carried out would be either Becky’s death or serious injury”.
The Guardianreported Matthews told police after his arrest that he came up with the idea of kidnapping Becky to “teach her a lesson” because he believed she was “selfish” and treated his mother badly.
Evidence presented to the jury also claimed that the couple left their home at 10:50 a.m. on the day Watts disappeared and stopped at a supermarket for batteries, which were “possibly for a stun gun”, Prosecutor William Mousley said in court Wednesday.
Bristol Crown Court heard she fought for her life but after being suffocated her body was put in the boot of Matthews’ and Hoare’s Vauxhall Zafira. “There followed a deliberate, carefully planned and grotesquely executed plan to cover up her killing”, he said.
Police went to the property following Matthews’ confession in interview and discovered Becky’s body parts stored in the shed.
Video from a hardware shop showed Matthews buying a power saw, gloves, goggles and a face mask a day after Watts went missing and prosecutors said the couple used the items for the dismemberment, The Guardian reported.
Karl Demetrius and Parsons have both pleaded guilty to their part in concealing Becky’s body parts, but Donovan Demetrius and Ireland deny the charges.
“They knew that the police would most likely be coming… the next morning”, and the prosecution say steps “had to be taken to have Becky Watts’ body parts removed”.
Alongside them in the dock are Karl’s brother Donovan Demetrius, 29, of Marsh Lane in Barton Hill and Jamie Ireland, 23, of Richmond Villas, Avonmouth, who have both pleaded not guilty to assisting an offender by storing or removing Becky’s body parts.
Matthews denies murder and conspiracy to kidnap.
In court, Becky’s family were distraught as graphic details about her body were read out. Hoare, who was pregnant at the time, denies any involvement.
Her body had been dismembered with a circular saw and a post mortem examination found that the girl had been stabbed 15 times in the abdomen after she died and had been struck in the neck with a screwdriver, prosecutors told a horrified courtroom.
Mr Mousley QC adds the couple then ordered a takeaway once they arrived home.
CCTV footage was played which the prosecution alleged showed Becky’s body being moved from the couple’s home to an address 80 metres away.
Prosecutor Mr Mousley said:”The body was dismembered with a circular power saw in eight different locations”. In the evening, a phone connected to both Matthews and Hoare made an internet search that said: “Do you want to hide a body?”
The trial, expected to last for six weeks, continues.
“Also found at their home were two stun guns, which were prohibited weapons and which may have been intended for the use in the planned kidnap”.
