PS4 Price Drop Announced for North America
Sony Corp. said on Thursday it will cut prices of PlayStation 4 in the USA and Canada as it attempts to further bolster sales of the popular videogame console.
There’s no word yet from Sony on whether the United Kingdom or Europe will get their own price drop, other than “we have nothing to announce at this time”.
Non-Destiny PS4 gamers spotted this unusual occurrence and reported it on NeoGAF, where it was revealed to be Sony’s new “curated content” recommendation system that automatically adds suggestions based on your previously downloaded games. The drop applies to all recently announced bundles, but strangely enough not all bundles have been deducted with $ 50.00 – In the United States the price of the Limited Edition Blacks Ops III bundle has only been lowered with $ 20.00. They have dropped the price of PS4 bundles for Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Disney Infinity 3.0, Star Wars Battlefront and National Hockey League 16. In Canada it will retail for $429.99 from $449.99.
Microsoft has made subsequent price cuts for its Xbox One, taking it as low as $350/€350, and now Sony is finally lowering the price of its PS4 too, albeit only for the North American markets. The price drop must have been communicated by Sony to the retailers earlier and was expected to go up on the relevant store pages after the official announcement from the company.
In the USA, the PlayStation 4 will be cheaper from October 9. All attention will now be on the press conference, which is to kick-off on October 27.
