Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu condemns knife attack by Jew
Arab leaders, including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, have said such a move would result in a regional war against Israel.
At a news conference with the country’s top defense officials, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tried to calm Israelis.
The violence in Israel continued on Friday with multiple stabbings and shootings. Police detained a suspect after the Jerusalem attack and Israeli forces killed a suspect after the West Bank attack, The Times of Israel reported.
In Tel Aviv, a female Israeli soldier was stabbed with a screwdriver, allegedly by a Palestinian, on Thursday.
The violence comes as clashes have increased in frequency since Israeli security forces began to crack down on Palestinian worshippers at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem last month.

She says they were confronted by thousands of rioters who hurled stones and firebombs at them. The guard opened fire and injured the woman before she could hurt anybody, officers added. The attack was seen as revenge for the wounding of seven Israelis by Palestinians in four attacks on Thursday. Six Palestinians, including four of the attackers, have been killed, including one on Thursday.
The Palestinian Red Crescent said Israeli forces arrested two Palestinians during the skirmishes.
The Tel Aviv attack occurred just across the road fom the Kirya military compound, which also houses the defence ministry.
Authorities on both sides have wrestled with how to respond.
An Israeli policeman, meanwhile, was injured and his assailant shot dead near the Jewish settlement of Kiryat Arba, close to Hebron.
Medics said another 80 Palestinians were wounded, 10 of them seriously.
“The death of a child after security forces used live ammunition against demonstrators should be a wake-up call for Israeli officials”, Joe Stork, HRW’s deputy Middle East director, said in a statement.
Abbas has praised Palestinians for “defending” al-Aqsa but also urged people to engage in “peaceful popular resistance”.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, for his part, reacted to Thursday’s violence by calling on Israeli residents of the city to carry licensed firearms. They identified the attacker as an Arab man without providing details. Israeli police said they were aware of the incident. The victims received light to moderate injuries. It is highly edited and depicts the aftermath of a series of unspecified stabbings. The site is so sensitive that even rumours are enough to trigger violence there.
The other three, including a 13-year-old teenager, were killed during the ongoing clashes in different West Bank cities which left over 600 casualties.
