Gail Zappa, Wife Of Musician Frank Zappa, Dies
Gail Zappa, the widow of rock music legend Frank Zappa, died in Los Angeles, her family said. Gail Zappa’s cause of death was not officially revealed, but TMZ reported she had had suffered a long battle with lung cancer.

After her husband’s death, Gail Zappa also became a top donor to the Democratic Party in California and was a frequent guest at the Clinton White House and a friend of Tipper Gore, who at the time was the wife of Vice President Al Gore. Ahmet Zappa was appointed the new trustee of the Zappa Family Trust in July 2015, and has been working with Universal Music Group to continue to release his father’s music.
The upcoming Frank Zappa documentary will be produced by Alex Winter. She denounced cover bands that played her husband’s music without permission and in 2008 unsuccessfully sued Zappanale, a German music festival, for appropriating the family name and even using her husband’s signature facial hair as its logo.
The estate’s statement said that Gail Zappa, while running a business, “never failed to impart the sense of humor that was part and parcel of her indomitable and formidable personality”.
