Spurned Johnson takes revenge on Texans
Andrew Luck, a three-time Pro Bowler, has finished only 56 percent of his passes and has seven interferences.
A game for the ages?
Hoyer came in to lead the Texans with 312 yards, including two TDs. “I guess it was a good impact, because even now, I have fans yelling during the game, Andre, we still love you”.
Not just is Hasselbeck 40, he likewise spent the short week managing a bacterial disease, which hospitalized him for a night and brought about a large portion of his week to be spent on a can.
The Colts didn’t win a lot of third downs, finishing just 3-of-11 in third-down conversions, but they owned first down. So the lackluster effort, at least through much of the first half, is inexcusable.
See what happens when you keep giving Gore the ball?
Hasselbeck threw two touchdown passes, both of them to former Texans player, Andre Johnson. Watt? After seeing his first start since 2012 on Sunday? Frank Gore also had a solid night with 22 rushes for 98 yards and a score. Solid’s second catch and touchdown went ahead a 11-yard go by Hoyer to get Houston to 20-17 in the second from last quarter.
And if they’re going to match the preseason expectations and contend for a Super Bowl title, they’ll have to do more than win inside the division.
Hasselbeck choked up after the game and said, during a television interview with CBS Sports, he had nothing left.
Once again, the Indianapolis Colts were without their star quarterback, Andrew Luck. The Texans threw for 362 yards, and again, this was a Texans offense missing its No. 2 and No. 3 receivers, and one run by Mallett (career passer rating: 63.8) and Hoyer (77.8). It wasn’t until Vinatieri drilled a 42-yard field goal on the ensuing Colts possession that the Texans mounted their comeback, with Hoyer entering to lead a 12-play, 62-yard drive culminating in a Nick Novak field goal. The completed hail mary to end the first half was ridiculous, and the other myriad blown coverages by the Colts secondary might have proven fatal against a more talented opponent. Absolutely no idea what Toler was doing on the play; if he was wearing a Houston uniform he would’ve been flagged for setting a pick. But an Indianapolis defense that did just enough to get by all night, has one more timely play in them. DeAndre Hopkins caught 11 balls for 169 yards. The Texans have always been held back by mediocre quarterback play and the 2015 season is flawless example of what a lack of quarterback can do for a team.
Houston quarterback Ryan Mallett was replaced by Brian Hoyer after going down hard from an illegal hit midway through the second quarter.
A few of the victories during the Colts’ current streak haven’t been pretty – a late defensive stand against Tennessee, an overtime win versus Jacksonville – but they’re not looking for style points.
The Colts benefited mightily from generous officiating. On third-and-nine, Hasselbeck was intercepted in the end zone by Rahim Moore, but the potentially game-turning play was wiped out by a holding penalty against Eddie Pleasant.
Key play: A facemask penalty from the Texans kept things alive on this first touchdown drive for the Colts. Houston had a chance to face the Colts at home without having to worry about an injured Luck (shoulder) making plays.
