Another Heat Wave Ahead with Highs 10-20 Degrees Above Normal
The heat and the intense use of power system made the supply of power fail on Friday in San Pedro, thing which affected approximately 11, 500 people.
Friday’s temperatures will run 15-20 degrees above normal, said NWS meteorologist Scott Sukup in a telephone interview from his monitoring station in Oxnard, adding that nonetheless, no heat records are expected.
In the next few days, however, the weather will remain moderately hot.
New temperature records were recorded throughout Southern California, according to the weather service.
Sea surface temperatures are in the 70-72 degree range. Downtown Los Angeles is expected to revert to the 80s by Tuesday, then continue cooling down. “It will be in effect from 10 a.m.to 8 p.m. Friday”.
Forecasters have urged residents to protect themselves and others from the high heat.
National Weather Service map shows high temperatures forecast for Friday. Children, the elderly and pets without adequate shelter are at high risk.
Santa Ana’s high of 106 smashed the previous record of 102 set for the date in 1988.
Forecasters said the heat wave will begin to retreat Saturday, followed by a drop of five to 10 degrees Sunday. There also was heavy surf and risky rip currents reported along area beaches.
