Number of people killed in Dublin fire
Up to 10 people, including a child, are feared to have been killed in a fire at a traveller site south of Dublin.
Six units of the fire service and five or six ambulances are on site at the house on the Glenamuck Road.
It is believed to include a number of houses, portacabins or caravans and is surrounded by high fencing. It’s understood that the bodies of the deceased remain at the scene.
It is believed that a number of people have died, and are believed to be from the same family.
Two adults and two children have also been taken to St Vincents and Tallaght Hospitals suffering from smoke inhalation.
There has been no official confirmation of the number of deaths yet.
Emergency services attended the scene at 4am.
It is understood three generations of a family were living on the site, including young grandchildren.
A cordon has been put in place at the scene.
Local councillors Neale Richmond and Lettie McCarthy have spoken to TheJournal.ie about this morning’s tragic events.
“It is not the news you want to hear n a lovely autumn Saturday morning”.
“They would have been well-liked and well-known”.
“It is just absolutely devastating, it’s actually hard to comprehend, I think everyone is in a state of shock and I can see all the neighbours coming out to catch up and see what the updates are on the news”, Ms McCoy said.
“This is an absolute tragedy for this community”, said Labour councillor Peter O’Brien.
