Justice League Dark Moves Forward With Producer Scott Rudin
Seeing as del Toro spent a considerable chunk of time developing the film, titled Dark Universe, he will still act as one of two producers alongside Scott Rudin, who is now said to be onboard.
Though Guillermo del Toro isn’t actively attached to direct anymore, it sounds like Warner Bros.is still pumped to move forward with its proposed Justice League Dark (aka Dark Universe) project. Not only is that a ridiculous turnaround for a movie of that size (let alone a DC Comics movie), but if everything goes smoothly, it could allow for a late 2016 or 2017 release date.
Rudin has a long list of film credits dating back to the early 1980s, including “Sleepy Hollow”, “No Country for Old Men”, “The Social Network”, “True Grit” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel”.
So expect to see Dark Universe find a director soon to begin its production next year.
Details on the project remain light, but it is expected to star John Constantine forming a team out of the pick of DC’s magical characters – such as Swamp Thing, Zatanna, Deadman and Etrigan, the Demon – to combat a supernatural threat.
Though the plot has always been secret, The Tracking Board hears the film will involve “a series of ancient tomes stolen by a madman hellbent on the destruction of humanity”. It is unknown if the script that Rudin hopes to shoot will be del Toro’s draft.
According to CBM, Justice League Dark is going to be set in the DC Extended Universe, with the plan now being for the team to co-exist separately from the Justice League.
