Lea Salonga, Brad Kane reunite, sing ‘A Whole New World’
Lea Salonga and Brad Kane brought the viewers of “Good Morning America” in “A Whole New World” all over again.
Lea, who lent the singing voice to Princess Jasmine in “Aladdin”, rendered a duet of the famous “A Whole New World” with the singing voice of the title character Brad Kane; accompanied on piano by Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken.
“Aladdin: Diamond Edition” is available on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere now and will be available on Blu-Ray on October 13. Menken describes how he knew the song, which has been a wedding favorite, would be flawless for the “magic carpet ride trip”.
This is the first time Kane and Salonga have sung the iconic Disney love song together since they originally recorded it in the early ’90s. “And so we just wanted that very romantic feeling of a flight over the city”.
“We did it!” Kane said excitedly afterwards, seemingly glad to have pulled off the performance on live television after 22 years, as he and Salonga embraced.
Meanwhile, Salonga is starring in a new musical titled “Allegiance”, which was inspired by the true-life experience of “Star Trek” star George Takei, according to Broadway World.
