Homeless man brings skull to parking lot
A Florida homeless man found a human skull and brought it to a local grocery store, upsetting customers who called police.
Nick Pecoraro, a witness to the freakish incident, told WPBF the man carried the skull through the parking lot “like a puppet”. “It smelled like death”.
Shoppers at a Publix in Sebastian, Florida, called 911 Tuesday afternoon after spotting a homeless man carrying around an actual human skull.
Deputies with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Department investigated the area where the homeless man claimed to have found the skull, which was an area about 200 feet off of the road, according to USA Today.
“The body was deteriorated for so long that the skull was simply sitting there with the rest of the bones”, Indian River County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Thomas Raulen told WPBF-TV. As of this publishing, authorities do not seem to believe the homeless have anything to do with the missing person’s body.
It’s too soon, Raulen said, to identify the remains or determine a cause of death. Officials say several people had been living in the woods, which is known for transient visitors.
“Those located in the woods were cooperative with investigators and provided information on the possible identity of the deceased subject although detectives have not been able to confirm the name”, the statement said.
