Former A’s prospect Michael Nolan dies from gunshot injuries
He was drafted by the Oakland A’s, but injuries limited his playing time.
“We’ll just go back down there and sit and wait until the very end and then take each hour as it comes”, said Donna Nolan, Michael’s mother. Nolan was officially declared brain-dead on Thursday afternoon, ending his career before it could get off the ground.
Michael Nolan was shot on September 18th while standing in a Burger King parking lot in Yonkers.
Upon hearing the news of Nolan’s passing, Athletics general manager David Forst released the following statement.
During his junior season at Oklahoma City University in 2014, the six-foot seven-inch southpaw compiled a 5-3 record, a 3.32 earned run average, and four complete games in 76 innings of work. The Journal News of White Plains, New York, said he was recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Family and friends of 23-year-old Michael Nolan had stayed by his bedside at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, hoping for a miracle.
Yonkers Police Chief Charles Garner said the incident “is not a random shooting”. The report also stated police are unsure if Nolan was the intended target.
