Manny Pacquiao confirms opening talks with Floyd Mayweather and Amir Khan
Manny Pacquiao has stated that talks are now ongoing for a possible rematch with undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather.
Appearing on ANC’s “Headstart” in his native Philippines, the Pacman revealed that ahead of his bout with Mayweather he dreamt he would not be victorious.
“I will fight anybody, anywhere”, Pacquiao told AFP.
Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao’s career-ending fight may happen in Doha, the “People’s Champ” said yesterday. Aside from the sports-related bills that he intends to pursue if elected to the senate, Pacquiao is also pushing for the revision of tax rates that have been cumbersome to middle class salary earners and majority of the Filipino masses.
“The election is coming next year, May, and before that I will probably have one fight”, he further said. “It’s not yet confirmed whether it would be here or in the USA”, Pacquiao added.
Pacquiao was quoted as saying by Agence France-Presse that he is willing to fight either Mayweather or Amir Khan.
While speaking with AFP this week, the Filipino boxing star said a final decision on who his opponent will be would be chosen by “November or December”. “But second, you know there is no way that Mayweather is ever going to fight in the Gulf, even if he does decide to fight again, so it’s all [expletive]”.
Mayweather retired last month following another easy victory against Andre Berto to extend his record to a flawless 49-0. “Mayweather is retired and I take him at his word”. “I will announce that when I file my candidacy”, he said in response to a query.
He also confirmed that the negotiations have begun between him and the one managing Manny Pacquiao.
Among others Pacquiao wants to craft a law that would require Filipino athletes to play for the national team or to represent the country if requested in the Olympic games or in major worldwide and regional competitions. “I’ve been in boxing for more than 20 years”. Pacquiao, meanwhile, has been recovering from surgery on his torn rotator cuff, which he suffered during his fight against Mayweather earlier this year.
“It was great to learn about Qatar’s 2030 Vision, which I think all countries can learn from”.
“I would love to have a rematch against Floyd in Qatar”, he added.
