Veteran Tamil Actor Manorama, Remembered as Aachi, Dies
Legendary Tamil actress Gopishantha, better known by her stage name Manorama passed away on Saturday night.
She was often referred to as the feminine equivalent of veteran actor Shivaji Ganesan.
An artist beyond comparison has just physically left us with decades of performances to be remembered and cherished. She set a Guinness record when she completed 1,000 films.
The legendery actress has acted in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu films. She is survived by her son Boopathi.
Manorama has been active until recent years and she has acted with nearly all heroes of this generation like Ajith, Vijay, Suriya, Vikram. Her role as an ageing woman who falls in love with Sathyaraj in the comedy super hit “Nadigan” was one of the toughest challenges she executed easily as this role could have become vulgar if one wrong dialogue delivery, body language or expression could have turned the character vulgar. She made her film debut with the movie “Malaiyitta Mangai” in 1958 and since then has worked in various south Indian films and a few Bollywood movies as well.
To honor the most versatile actress the industry ever witnessed, Behindwoods is proud to have presented the “Behindwoods Gold Medal for Golden Legacy” to the great Manaroma in 2015.
Aachi had also crooned many famous numbers.
But it was the parody of “Pogathey Pogathey En Kanava”, in the film Ratha Thilagam, to the music of K.V. Mahadevan produced by Kannadasan, that identified her talent as a singer.
