Rangers at Blue Jackets
The Jackets have a few holes on the blue line but have a nice top six and with Brandon Dubinsky in full health and getting a crack at his old team here I think the Jackets will show up for their home opener and give the Rangers a nice game.
Many expected the Kings to roar into this second game after laying an egg in their opener.
Columbus also will be without David Clarkson on Saturday as the right wing is battling a lower-body injury.
The lines tonight will be the same as they were Wednesday.
Jay LaPrete/AP The Rangers stage a furious three-goal rally to beat the Blue Jackets.
The brawny Blue Jackets shot out of the gate in their home opener, targeting every Ranger in sight, crashing the net nearly at will and punishing their opponents at every opportunity. Including tonight, eight of their next 10 games are at the Garden. It was an ideal situation for the Blue Jackets, with the team’s major offseason acquisition Brandon Saad grabbing a goal in his regular season debut with the team.
“Yes, they came at us very hard, and they were in our zone too much, but I thought we had good push-back physically, and took hits to make plays”, Marc Staal said. “Certainly what we’ve learned is we had a few people who purchased season-ticket packages to get access”.
“You want it to be a building where you feel confident”, Lundqvist said.
Just 15 seconds later, second-year forward Kevin Hayes caught Bobrovsky napping with a side-angle shot to cap a strong performance.
But Oscar Lindberg made it 2-2 only 1:14 after Saad scored, and Kevin Hayes followed only 17 seconds later – an terrible goal allowed by Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky to put the Rangers up 3-2.
So the Rangers head home, 2-0 for the first time since opening with five straight victories in 2008-09 in Tom Renney’s final season behind the bench.
