“Saving Mr. Banks” scribe to pen Disney’s live-action “Cruella”
Disney now has another live-action One Hundred and One Dalmatians remake in the works that will focus on the villainous fashionista obsessed with fur. That’s in addition to several movies that have already been dated: Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book (April 15, 2016), Tim Burton’s sequel Alice Through the Looking Glass (May 27, 2016) and Bill Condon’s Beauty and the Beast (March 17, 2017).
After a few highly-publicized and unfortunate drama surrounding Fifty Shades of Grey, screenwriter Kelly Marcel opted out of returning to pen the sequel – that’s bad news for Fifty Shades fans, as Marcel’s script vastly improved upon the source material, but good news for Marcel fans, as the writer is now freed up to pursue non-Fifty Shades projects (it’s for the best), like Disney’s live-action Cruella de Vil movie.
Disney recently announced release dates for three untitled live-action fairy tale films. Adapted from Dodie Smith’s 1956 novel, the film and its baddie – who wants to make a coat out of Dalmatian puppies – became iconic. Mulan is also due to get the live-action treatment. Witherspoon will produce Tink with Bruna Papandrea, her partner at the duo’s production banner, Pacific Standard.
Disney is eyeing a few time between 2017 and 2019 for Cruella’s release.
