A closer look at Street Fighter V’s new fighter
You may notice a few similarities between her overall style and another World Warrior hailing from Brazil: Blanka – what with her rolling about and electrocuting everything. Apart from her, two other characters have been revealed including the beast-like tribal warrior Necalli and the swift-as-the-wind fighter Rashid. With only one more new character and one classic to come.
Not much was known about “Laura” apart from the leaked images last week, but now Capcom has apparently made a decision to release her official reveal trailer and officially announce her as a brand new character for the upcoming game, seeing as that the cat was already out of the bag. Laura uses a combination of quick rush attacks partnered with several grab moves which should look familiar to actual jiu-jitsu practitioners.
“Laura Matsuda is a Jiu-Jitsu specialist, a first for the Street Fighter series”, Capcom said of the fighter. And in Street Fighter V, she’ll be looking to spread that Matsuda name and raise its profile. EB Games New Zealand has uploaded footage of Laura to their YouTube account.
Her V-Skill is called Linear Movement and, by holding either back or forward when pressing the medium punch and kick buttons, she moves in the corresponding direction, allowing her to quickly get in and out.
Blanka has yet to step from behind the curtain and join the Street Fighter V lineup.
V-Skills and and V-Triggers are new mechanics being introduced in Street Fighter 5, with each character having their own unique set.
