Dadri lynching: PM Modi breaks silence; says Hindus and Muslims should fight
Now, Indian government is trying to pass a resolution abort special status of Kashmir. “Many Muslims view the ban on beef as an attack to their religious identity”, Wani said. He promised that the NDA government will fulfill all the dreams and aspirations of the people of Bihar once elected.
Narendra Modi has been recognised around the world as an astute leader, and one who knows the chemistry of politics well. Narendra Modi is well known for his anti-Muslim agenda.
On the other side of the spectrum, we saw the horrific Mumbai blasts, in which many people from the majority community lost their lives. It was again criticized by many so-called secularists, who blamed BJP for it. But the meat ban during Paryushan period was as per the order passed by the Supreme Court in 1964.
Eighteen months after the general election that swept him to power, anger in the countryside has already forced Modi to drop a policy to make it easier to take over farmland for industry and infrastructure – key to his economic plans. The recent incident of a Muslim’s murder is clear example of Modi’s anti-Muslim approach. There are Muslims, Parsis, Christians and other religious groups here.
Modi himself has been at the forefront of his party’s campaign, addressing a host of rallies, including one on Friday near the town of Aurangabad attended by about 10,000 people. The company exports goat and buffalo meat, but apparently not beef. The violence fueled a debate about laws on the killing & consuming of cows. “Modi and his cabinet should adopt a positive attitude towards Muslims and avoid aggressive approach in this regard”. His family had insisted all along that there was no beef in the house.
“We’re 100 per cent sure the Modi government will win”.
But what has PM Modi’s reaction to this terrible incident that has sent shockwaves in India been.
Last week Mohammad Akhlaq, a 50-year-old Muslim ironsmith, was beaten to death and his son injured by a Hindu mob at Dadri, 50 kilometers from Delhi, over the rumor that the family ate beef. Until the 1980s, Hindutva as a political movement remained on the margins, but that decade saw a number of political moments (like the famous Shah Bano case) that were deemed to be making the position of Hindus vulnerable in favour of “pandering to minorities”. Babri Mosque incident has already been observed earlier. Another son, a technician in the Indian air force, was unharmed-probably because he doesn’t live in Dadri. Both India and Pakistan should work together to eliminate the terrorism from the region. The Dadri lynching isn’t the first horrific incident that India has witnessed and keeping in mind the increasing level of intolerance seeping into our mindsets, it certainly won’t be the last, but where it stands out when compared to other similar instances is that it was effective in pioneering a raging public discourse regarding the worrying direction in which India is headed.
Television footage showed several Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators, who consider cows sacred, pushing and shoving Abdul Rashid, a Muslim, in the Jammu and Kashmir state assembly for holding a provocative “beef party”.
Modi also took a veiled swipe at the Gandhi family, whom he referred to as having gathered millions of dollars through corrupt means over the past 60 years.
