Moore, Lynx Beat Buzzer in WNBA Finals
Moore’s 3-pointer beat the buzzer by the slimmest of margins, giving Minnesota an 80-77 win for a 2-1 series edge.
“Honestly, I haven’t really watched it much, we have so much left to do to win this championship”, she said. “That was just a hell of a shot by Maya Moore”. “Great individual effort on her part”. Most of the stats are just about even between the teams. Minnesota trailed 77-74 with 2:08 left before former Husky Renee Montgomery hit a three-pointer to tie it at 77 with 1:11 left.
“I don’t think I have hit one of those with the Lynx”, Moore said of her game-winner. Photo by Matthew Fleegel.
“Your back is against the wall and you know your urgency has to be at an all-time high”, said Fever head coach Stephanie White.
“If you’ve never been around Maya, she throws caution to wind at every turn, and she just plays”, said Reeve. That’s fun to see.
Sylvia pulled down eight rebounds defensively in the win, five of which contributed to points. We come together at the times we’ve needed to the most. The horn sounded as the ball passed through the net.
Dunn, along with Pacers coach Frank Vogel, Paul George, George Hill, and C.J. Miles have bought 2,300 seats, which will be made available (up to four tickets per person) at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse Box Office beginning at noon on Wednesday. And they took advantage of that period, using a 16-6 run while Moore was on the bench to regain the lead and momentum. The clutch three-pointer gave the Lynx a 2-1 lead over the Indiana Fever in the best-of-five series. “But it felt good coming off my hand. But I’m just glad it went in”.
For the Western Conference champions, Maya Moore and Sylvia Fowles decisively lead the Lynx, but the 2014 WNBA MVP has had the biggest overall impact for Minnesota in the postseason.
Indiana has been able to lessen the impact of Minnesota’s other pieces outside of Fowles, but Moore has been huge on both ends of the floor. But it’s a team effort. “You see the grit and character of this team. You don’t want a blowout on either side”.
“Our team did a great job of bouncing back”, said Fever point guard Briann January after practice Saturday.
As the Lynx built a 59-57 lead through 30 minutes, the Collins Hill grad played only 12:11 and scored 12 points.
Overall, this was a game for the ages. The first three games have been decided by a total of 15 points. “I’m a little biased”. “Might be one of the best WNBA Finals games in our history”. “They’ve been in a ton of elimination games”.
“It doesn’t impact it. We prepare the same way regardless”. Whenw e were getting mauled, we got past it and we tried to get rid of it instead of getting around them.
That shot ended a thrilling game and put Minnesota in a position to clinch the title in Game 4 on Sunday.
If the Lynx play up to the best of their abilities, they should take home the title behind their two stars.
