How to watch Troy vs. Mississippi State: Game time, live stream, TV
The Mississippi State Bulldogs bounced back from a disappointing loss last week at Texas A&M by dismantling the Troy Trojans 45-17 at Davis Wade Stadium Saturday afternoon. Fred Ross had a touchdown return, and the defense started strong.
Mississippi State was a big play machine on Saturday against Troy, and no play was more impressive than sophomore wide receiver Donald Gray’s touchdown catch.
“Today we had a lot of guys playing nasty defense”, Mullen said. Freshman Nick Fitzgerald entered the game and immediately threw a touchdown pass to give Mississippi State a commanding 31-0 lead with 10 minutes still remaining in the first half. Pruitt capped the drive with a 5-yard touchdown run after Brandon Burks converted another fourth down the play before.
Fitzgerald, who was locked in during the walkthrough, was 6 of 7 for 141 yards and two touchdowns. “This is the type of defense I expect us to play”. On the second play from scrimmage, Prescott found Ross for a 65-yard touchdown catch. “Bear (Wilson) also did a great job on the perimeter block, which made my job easy”.
Troy dominated the time of possession in the third quarter, scoring a pair of touchdowns to cut into the MSU lead to 38-14.
The Bulldogs led 38-0 at halftime.
Sophomore kicker Westin Graves nailed a 42-yard field goal in the first half to improve to 7-for-7.
TROY LOOKING FOR OFFENSE: Troy hired new coach Neal Brown in the offseason.
The Trojans ran out another quarterback of their own, with third string quarterback Dontreal Pruitt taking the snaps.
After a first down run from Andre Flakes, Brandon Silvers dropped back and was stripped near the end zone. Troy couldn’t score again until the final minute of the game when Jed Solomon hit 21-yard field goal.
Coaching – C: Troy fans may want to win this year, but the Trojans, now sitting at 1-4, seem to be positioning themselves for the future.
Prescott was 3 of 6 for 74 yards.
