Move over Rodgers: Packers defense is rolling, too
The Green Bay Packers (4-0) are coming from a 17-3 win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4. “We’re a bunch of kids out there running around and having fun at each other’s expense”, explained Matthews in an ESPN report. The 49ers put in more quarterback runs and options as part of the game plan, and that worked sporadically, with Kaepernick gaining 57 yards on 10 carries. It was the 3 time in four games that he was unsuccessful in breaking 200 yards passing, and he got sacked six times.
FRUSTRATION MOUNTS: 49ers coach Jim Tomsula isn’t ready for an offensive overhaul or switch to backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert, but everybody involved is feeling the heat of an ineffective scheme and a quarterback who admittedly is being cautious with his throws to avoid further mistakes. But it still doesn’t feel good at all losing.
Added Smith: “Tomsula doesn t deserve this, fans don t deserve to watch the way we play and we ve got to get this thing right”. (Coach Jim) Tomsula doesn’t deserve this. By eliminating his big plays and dominating the 49ers, they sent a message to the rest of the National Football League: Green Bay isn’t just an offensive machine anymore. The entire Packers defense seemed to have his number all game long.
” Do not go around these things”, he told reporters. You go right through them.
Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports that the 49ers are not considering benching Kaepernick heading into the Week 5 matchup against the New York Giants. “We’re going to take it one game at a time and focus on our next opponent and we’ll get there”. The score and flow of the game played a factor, too. “We had a good first drive and we kind of stalled for a little while”.
The Rams’ challenging early-season schedule continues with a noon game Sunday against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. NFL.com points out that Kaepernick was able to rush for 181 yards and throw for 263 yards during the 2012 divisional round of the playoffs. The Packers held the 49ers to 77 yards rushing and 196 yards overall.
The Packers won scoring 19 points or less for the first time in five years.
The comment came after Matthews sacked Kaepernick in the third quarter and openly mocked the quarterback’s trademark bicep-kissing celebration. After 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick tried to scramble but was caught for a loss of one, one of the Packers defenders said something fantastic to Kaepernick.
That may be forcing Kaepernick to forget what he learned in the offseason, for now.
“That’s been our problem the past few weeks”. “There’s no point of getting down there if you can’t get touchdowns”.
In a match of limited opportunities for the Aussie, Hayne made the highlights reel for all the wrong reasons when he attempted to field a punt and was bowled over by 49ers teammate L.J McCray midway through the second quarter.
Richard Rodgers caught a 9-yard touchdown pass on the game’s opening drive before Rodgers got his team going in the second half. A more conservative approach resulted in six sacks and several ugly throwaways, but only one interception despite constant pressure from the blitz-happy Packers. But from the 15 yard line, Kaepernick was sacked on 4th down by Mike Neal.
“Just by being where I need to be, being in his vision”, said Bush, via ESPN.com.
The 49ers haven’t felt that winning feeling since September 14. Torrey Smith and Anquan Boldin have combined for 309 receiving yards and two touchdowns while Garrett Celek has 11 receptions.
