Silver Star Nation: Dunbar Out; Another Huge Loss for Cowboys
Dallas running back Lance Dunbar will miss the rest of the season with what appears to be a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, the latest major injury for an offense already missing stars Tony Romo and Dez Bryant.
Romo is reportedly aiming for a November 22 return in time to play Miami.
The Cowboys (2-2), who lost their second straight, could only wish they’d been as fortunate as the Saints (1-3) were in getting Brees and several other key players back from injuries. Through three games, Dunbar leads the team with 21 receptions for 215 yards.
But not too long after the overtime period started, Brees threw to Spiller who was running a wheel route along the right sideline.
New Orleans Saints running back C.J. Spiller (28) scores the game-winning touchdown during overtime of an NFL football game against the Dallas Cowboys in New Orleans, Sunday, October 4, 2015.
Brees finished the night 33 of 41 for 359 yards, 2 touchdown passes and no interceptions. He also has not been hit in a game since the 2013 season and should be as healthy as any free-agent running back the Cowboys look at.
The Dallas Cowboys might be the unluckiest team in the National Football League, as they have now reportedly lost RB Lance Dunbar for the season.
“We have to be able to get the ball out quicker to get it into playmakers’ hands”, Kaepernick said. And when you’re playing against an elite quarterback, you’ve got to keep him off the field, and we didn’t.
NOTES: Payton confirmed an NBC report during the game Sunday night that four-time All-Pro guard Jahri Evans had arthroscopic knee surgery, adding it took place a week-and-a-half ago.
Brandon Weeden was drafted by the New York Yankees in 2002, so it’s not surprising his assessment of the Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback situation Wednesday included a baseball analogy.
Tyler Patmon (CB) – Patmon ended Sunday’s matchup with the Saints with one assisted tackle and one pass defended. The Cowboys would end up getting the ball back with about 4 minutes left in the game on their own 9 yard line.
Replacing Dunbar with one player will be impossible but the Cowboys pride themselves on their ability to adjust.
The Cowboys finally found a useful role for Dunbar early on this season in the running and passing game, as well as the primary kickoff returner.
Mark Ingram gained 128 yards from scrimmage on a combination of runs and short passes. Somebody needs to make a play.
His absences leaves a big hole in the Cowboys backfield, as well as on special teams.
The teams then exchanged field goals. They didn’t get a timeout to get an injured playoff off the field before the game winning touchdown. The Cowboys have had minus runs on nearly 10 percent of their carries, losing 22 yards on 12 carries (excluding kneel-downs).
