49ers release Wright, add Tiller
News of the transaction was first reported via the team’s website.
Wright began the preseason as a starting cornerback opposite Tramaine Brock.
Guard Andrew Tiller was promoted from the practice squad to fill Wright’s spot on the active roster. It was clear Wright wasn’t happy with his role on San Francisco’s roster.
Wright is now looking to catch on with another team, and he thanked the 49ers on Twitter for granting his release.
The 6-foot-5, 300-pound Tiller was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft and was waived on August. 31, 2013.
Tiller, 26, was originally signed to the practice squad in October 2014.
Tiller started every game in his final two seasons at Syracuse.
Of all the 49ers’ backup offensive lineman – a group that included Trent Brown, Ian Silberman and Brandon Thomas – Tiller is the only one who has any regular-season experience. Tackle Joe Staley (knee) is listed as questionable and guard Alex Boone (shoulder, ankle) is probable.
