Two dead in separate USA uni shootings
Police are reporting one person dead and another wounded, after a shooting at Texas Southern University.
In another shooting, police said a man, later identified as 20-year-old Darrius Nichols, fired a gun toward a crowd of people about 9:30 p.m. September 26 at a student apartment complex at 3525 Blodgett near Tierwester.
Witnesses reported seeing at least three suspects run into the building after the shooting. Police have not said if the two shootings are related.
The school said that the assailant was still at large.
The Houston Police Department did not respond to a request for further details about the victims.
Earlier today, another school shooting took place at Northern Arizona University, killing one person.
The campus is in the heart of Houston, so it is unclear whether or not the shooting involved students, the spokesperson said.
According to the Associated Press, TSU President John Rudley said students need to remember that “crime is all around us”.
The shooting is the third in recent weeks on or near the TSU campus.
Fowls says she wouldn’t feel safe bringing her 3-year-old son onto campus. Students and teachers were told to stay inside until the lockdown was lifted Friday afternoon, after two men were detained, but police said no charges have been filed. “It could hit anybody”. Their names have not been released.
The incident occurred in the student housing area when a conflict broke out between two student groups.
Classes at the university will resume on Monday. A possible suspect is detained.
Callis says the suspected shooter is still on the loose. The school locked down its campus and canceled classes for the rest of the day. The extent of the other victim’s injuries was not immediately revealed, but officials said the student is expected to survive.
