India to Pakistan: ‘Give up terrorism’ and we can talk
The Pakistan official said his country on Thursday handed over to the UN Secretary General dossiers containing “evidence of Indian involvement in terrorism and fomenting instability in Pakistan”. “In fact, India’s reservations about the proposed China-Pakistan Economic Corridor stem from the fact that it passes through Indian territory illegally occupied by Pakistan for many years”.
In his comment, spokesperson Vikas Swarup said: “To de-militarise Kashmir is not the answer, to de-terrorise Pakistan is”.
Targeting the United Nations on its 70th anniversary, she said it “appears as an ineffective institution” when gauged on the parameters of whether it has been able to prevent conflicts, find permanent solution to them or show the path of peace to the world.
The Kashmir Council EU Chairman, Ali Raza Syed hailed Pakistan’s stance on issue of Kashmir at United Nations General Assembly especially demilitarization of Kashmir.
Ahmad also alleged that India has “failed to bring to justice the perpetrators of terrorism against innocent civilians in the 2007 Samjhauta Express bombings”, and spoke of “massacre of Muslims in Gujarat”.
“If the response is serious and credible”, the minister said, “India is prepared to address all outstanding issues, which includes Kashmir in diplomacy-speak, through a bilateral dialogue”.
Sharif had also said Pakistan is the “primary victim” of terrorism.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a tough line with Pakistan, insisting he’s unwilling to debate different points until Pakistan admits its position in terror assaults in India.
He underlined the “primacy and urgency” of addressing the issues of Kashmir and peace and security between India and Pakistan while saying “Cooperation, not confrontation, should define our relationship”.
“The world watches with concern as its consequences have spread beyond its immediate neighborhood”.
Mrs. Swaraj said that the goal of these attacks is meant to destabilize India and “legitimize Pakistan’s illegal occupation of parts of…Jammu and Kashmir and its claim on the rest of it”.
“None of us can accept that terrorism is a legitimate instrument of statecraft”.
India had also exercised its Right of Reply after Sharif’s address, disagreeing with the Pakistani leader’s remarks that it is the “primary victim” of terrorism.
“It needs no imagination to figure out which side initiates this exchange” he said.
