Benghazi Panel Targeted Clinton, Former Staffer Says
Democrats Saturday seized on allegations by a former staffer to the special House committee investigating the Benghazi attacks that the panel was conducting “partisan” investigation of presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, citing it as further evidence that the panel should be shut down. He also alleges he was sacked in part for taking time away to fulfill his duties with the Air Force, which would be an illegal cause for termination, CNN reports. “The victims’ families are not going to get the truth and that’s the most unfortunate thing about this”.
On Wednesday, Democratic Representative Alan Grayson of Florida filed an ethics complaint against McCarthy and the committee’s chairman, Trey Gowdy, saying that federal funds for the Benghazi committee were being used for political purposes.
Gowdy, R-South Carolina, has defended the panel’s work, insisting that he has found important new documents to be released this week involving emails from Clinton’s longtime adviser, Sidney Blumenthal, who offered intelligence advice on Libya.
According to a draft of the lawsuit obtained by the Times, Podliska was told by a majority staffer that he was being terminated for three reasons: mishandling classified information, inviting colleagues to a reception sponsored by a trade group, and handing a project to an intern without proper authorization. Why were his repeated requests for stronger security measures ignored?
The ranking Democrat on the Benghazi panel, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (Maryland), said Saturday evening that Podliska’s allegations provide more proof of serious bias by the committee’s majority. We could not. We will keep working until the last fact is uncovered. The move de-emphasized other agencies involved with the attacks on the American consulate on September 11, 2012.
“I’m scared. I’m nervous”. “I’m going up against powerful people in Washington”. If a Republican wins the presidency, America is doomed.
“Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right?”
The measure would have replaced language in a bill creating a Select Committee on Planned Parenthood with language to disband the Benghazi committee.
Even as Sanders continues to post strong fundraising numbers, and Clinton’s numbers have dropped in Iowa, New Hampshire and in national polls, Wall Street has remained bullish about the prospect of a Clinton presidency. “Because she’s untrustable. But no one would have known any of that had happened had we not fought”.
A Republican staffer from the House Select Committee on Benghazi has been fired after he says he developed concerns about the politicized nature of the panel’s investigation.
McCarthy later said he had not meant to suggest the committee’s goal had been to harm the former secretary of state’s chance of winning the November 2016 election.
The letter, in which Gowdy calls out Cummings for his involvement in leaking information to “promote [congressional Democrats’] false narrative”, touches on Sidney Blumenthal’s email exchanges with Clinton. Since March, 24 of the 31 press releases the committee issued have focused on Clinton.
Martin O’Malley was blunt when he learned Hillary Rodham Clinton had announced her opposition to a Pacific Rim trade deal.
On trade, Democrats say in many cases her role required her to advocate for the Obama administration – and now she’s running for the top job.
“These are explosive allegations”, Clinton campaign spokesman Brian Fallon said in a statement. Romer-Friedman said the PowerPoint simply showed a timeline of the events following the Benghazi attacks and was in no way a “hit piece”.
The rules on ethics need to be enforced.
