Prospective St. Louis National Football League stadium gets $158 million naming rights deal
St. Louis is working on a plan for a stadium to try to keep the National Football League Rams in town, and National vehicle Rental is based in St. Louis.
Enterprise Holdings bought the future naming rights for a new NFL stadium in St. Louis, and has made a decision to name it “National auto Rental Field”.
The documents released to St. Louis Magazine under the Sunshine Law, revealed that the city’s obligations to cover debt retirement would jump from about $6 million per year at present to $9,785,000 in 2020, then increase every year to a staggering $15,975,000 in 2051. Owner Stan Kroenke, who also holds a majority stake in English soccer team Arsenal FC, has expressed a desire to move the Rams to Los Angeles.
“This naming rights agreement delivers a vital asset to our effort, and that’s additional financial certainty for the project that may flow through the team or stadium authority, depending on negotiations”, Peacock said. The Rams are competing with the San Diego Chargers and the Oakland Raiders, both of whom are also mooting moves to LA. Two decades later, the dome is outdated by National Football League standards.
Company officials say they believe the new stadium would help make St. Louis “great again”. In addition to National, it operates the Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Alamo Rent A auto brands.
“It’s about playing our part in a historic effort to renew our riverfront, further revive our downtown area and reinforce St. Louis’s standing as a truly great city”, she said in a statement.
