Patriots DB King added to 53-man roster
Former Auburn safety Brandon King could make his National Football League debut on Sunday when the New England Patriots visit the Dallas Cowboys. The New England Patriots released the much-maligned defensive back on Saturday, according to the NFL’s official transaction page. The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder, was released on September 5 and signed to the practice squad on September 7.
The seven-year veteran was in his first season with the Patriots, appearing in two games while recording 10 total tackles.
Fletcher, who was signed as a free agent this offseason, was one of several free agent cornerbacks the team brought in to try to help fill the cornerback void left by Darrelle Revis, Brandon Browner, Kyle Arrington and Alfonzo Dennard. Fletcher originally entered the National Football League as a third-round (66 overall) draft pick by the St. Louis Rams out of Iowa in 2009. King is on an National Football League roster even though he never started a game at Auburn.
Now with four cornerbacks on its roster, New England could be shorthanded if anything were to happen to one of the members of its secondary.
