ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi convoy hit by Iraqi air strike
Iraqi security forces said on October 11 that they struck the convoy of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in an air strike near the country’s border with Syria.
Iraq says it has hit the convoy of the chief of Daesh in an airstrike in the western Anbar Province. The fate of Baghdadi, who has been reported killed or wounded several times in the past, is unknown.
“The Iraqi airforce carried out a heroic operation by striking al-Baghdadi’s convoy while he on his way to attend a meeting with senior ISIS leaders in Karabelah, the statement said”.
Iraqi security sources have claimed Baghdadi had been injured or killed in strikes in the past, but those claims have never been verified or were later denied.
Karabla is on the Euphrates river, barely three miles (5km) from the border with Syria.
The terror kingpin, one of the world’s most wanted men, was last seen in public making a speech at the Great Mosque of al-Nuri in Mosul in northern Iraq in July, 2014.
The Iraqi military said that Baghdadi was “carried away by a vehicle”.
The reports are now unverified and the terror leader’s condition is now unknown.
The military said the air force bombed a location where Baghdadi was planning to meet Islamic States commanders.
Al-Baghdadi has been rarely seen in public since becoming the leader of IS.
