Man shot to death in confrontation with Beverly police
A suspect who was shot by a veteran Beverly Police officer after striking two police cruisers died Saturday.
Investigators say the man backed into two police cruisers. He was pronounced dead at Beverly Hospital.
Police were called to Balch Street behind the Cummings Center for the report of a suicidal man, according to Blodgett.
Blodgett says when an officer ordered him to stop, he rammed two police cruisers. A responding officer fired a shot through the driver’s side window, hitting the man.
Authorities did not immediately release the suspect’s name.
“He was driving the black vehicle, the SUV, and was hitting my mother’s auto and the police auto, back and forth, back and forth”, said Alicia Guerrette.

A relative of one of the women involved told the Herald that the passenger side of the woman’s Toyota Highlander was smashed in by the repeated impacts.
“My mom’s obviously in shock; she’s shaken up”. “I am extremely thankful that they are both OK”. The officer who fired the shot has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of an investigation by Blodgett’s office.
