Leicester: Vardy – Goals in defeat mean nothing
The Chilean was Arsenal’s top scorer in his first season at the Emirates last term, but has yet to get off the mark this time around after leading his country to Copa America glory over the summer.
Jamie Vardy has praised Leicester’s supporters for staying behind the team, but admits he would rather earn points than score goals. “He tracks back and does a lot for the team”, Walcott told the official Arsenal website. United might be leading the race now but if Arsenal keeps playing like they did against Leicester, they could be in the race for the Premier League crown. “I think … to adjust to the game on a mental level takes a few time”.
But the north Londoners responded soon afterwards with an equaliser from Theo Walcott before Alexis Sanchez edged them in front just after the half-hour mark. I could see in training a different player in the last week or two and he has shown that today.
“He’s had 36 shots at the goal since the start of the season”.
The Chile striker has struggled this season after scoring 25 goals in his first year after leaving Barcelona.
Beaten Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri added: “It’s fantastic, I’ve known him (Sanchez) since he played in Italy, when he plays at this level he is an incredible player and can do everything”.
Back-to-back defeats for Manuel Pellegrini’s men in the Champions League and the Premier League halted their early-season momentum in an instant and they need to return to winning ways quickly.
Walcott revelled in another start at centre-forward and capped a widely-praised performance with his fifth goal in six games for club and country. After defeats to Dinamo Zagreb and Chelsea, questions had again been asked of Arsene Wenger’s side but they’ll be hoping the cup victory will spearhead a charge to the title.
The Chelsea chief was also angry at the Football Association’s decision to retrospectively ban Diego Costa for three matches following last weekend’s 2-0 win over Arsenal, while Gabriel’s red card during the incident was rescinded.
