Former Manchester United star Andrei Kanchelskis is in the running to become the next manager of Derry City.
The Ukrainian legend applied for the manager’s job yesterday, the Irish Mirror can reveal.
Kanchelskis, who scored 36 goals in 161 appearances in a four-year spell at Old Trafford from 1991-95, has thrown his hat into the ring, although current caretaker manager Paul Hegarty is in pole position.
Kanchelskis’ last job was with Latvian club FC Jūrmala from which he departed after being relegated.
The 46-year-old is said to be interested in managing in England in the future and sees the Derry role as an ideal stepping stone for breaking his way into the Premier League.
And Hegarty is the front runner to fill the post on a full-time basis next season, should he want it.
He also appeared for Everton, Fiorentina, Rangers, Manchester City and Southampton.
His management career has also taken on Russian sides Ufa and Torpedo-ZIL Moscow.
He retired as a player in 2006 after a spell with Russian outfit Krylia Sovetov.
