Rotherham appoint Neil Redfearn as new boss after Steve Evans’ departure
The Championship club while confirming the appointment revealed on their official website: “Rotherham United are delighted to announce the appointment of Neil Redfearn as the club’s first team manager”.
Dean Smith has said that he just wants to get on with his job after the club rejected an approach from Rotherham for his services, reports the Walsall Advertiser.
The Millers also saw their overtures to Burton Albion to bring in Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink as the next manager rejected late last week, with the Dutchman keen to stay put.
The former Barnsley player’s first game in charge is at Brentford a week on Saturday, before back-to-back home games against Reading and local rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
Redfearn therefore succeeds the always controversial Steve Evans, who was dismissed last month following three years in charge at the New York Stadium.
The 50-year-old will be presented to the media at a press conference on Monday.
Redfearn, 50, was sacked by Leeds at the end of last season and Rotherham feel he can galvanise the Championship side.
He returned to his role as academy coach at the end of the season amid a hard relationship with owner Massimo Cellino before leaving the club in July.
So far this term, United have scored 12 and conceded 19 goals in 10 Championship games, creating 82 chances and with an average pass accuracy of 68%.
