British Masters Win At Woburn “Would Mean Alot”
Ryder Cup star Poulter is hosting the return of the £3million British Masters at his home club Woburn this week as he seeks his first ever win on English soil.
With a history which dates back to 1946, and a hugely impressive roll of honour, the absence of the British Masters from the schedule was a poor reflection on the European Tour’s failure to attract sponsors in its own backyard.
Shane Lowry, whose year to date has included a victory at the WGC Bridgestone, is the leading world ranked player in the field, the Irish golfer having finished 19th last week at the Alfred Dunhill in addition to his win in Ohio two starts earlier. I expect him to be right in the thick of things on Sunday.
” It’s home away from home and even though I don’t get to spend as much time here any more, I really enjoy coming back up here”. “Thirteen years later, I have the chance to do it again and join all those incredible names on the trophy”.
“I would certainly like to see the golf tournament held in the north of England”.
“I’m a little different”.
“This winter I’ll look at areas that have dropped off because I have not been able to practise”.
“The one big spark for me is my mum, she comes out of hospital today, so things have got a lot better today”, he said on Tuesday. If I hadn’t, I might be playing the European Tour all my life. “There’s plenty of land around the outside, so I don’t see any reason why not”. We talk through different scenarios of swapping the numbers to encourage guys like Paul Casey to continue his membership, but also United States guys to take up membership. But I think a couple of injuries have been the cause.
“The situation in the U.S. is you need three releases; add that to the eight World Golf Championships and the majors only makes 11”.
“Obviously the older you get, the more difficult it is going to be to stay in shape, so I have to keep continuing to work hard at that”, he added.
The broadcasters claims that using the Woburn course to explain and educate viewers during the course of a tournament is another first in golf broadcasting.
Three weeks ago, Theresa Poulter suffered an aneurism and had been hospitalised until Tuesday night.
The closest Poulter has come to a win in 2015 was at the Honda Classic in March.
