Brendan Rodgers is already in the frame to replace this struggling Premier
And Sherwood has been given two games to save his job against Chelsea and Swansea.
Reports in today’s Mirror claim that current Villa boss Tim Sherwood must guide the club to at least one win in their next two Premier League outings if he is to save his job.
Although they beat Second City rivals Blues in the League Cup and threatened to get something at Anfield when going down 3-2 to Liverpool, a derby-day defeat to Albion and last Saturday’s 1-0 home loss to Stoke City means Villa are already four points adrift of safety.
Sherwood on the other hand, has pretty much “found” himself in charge of Aston Villa.
However, that date ended in a thumping four-goal victory for the Gunners and the sales of striker Christian Benteke to Liverpool and midfielder Fabian Delph to Manchester City have prompted a huge turnover of players.
However, despite the significant investment in adding to the squad in the summer, Villa look set for the doom and gloom of another relegation battle and Sherwood is understood to be increasingly concerned that several of his players lack the necessary qualities – both mental and technical – to face such a challenge.
Sherwood was keen to recruit proven Premier League players, including Esteban Cambiasso and Aaron Lennon, yet the club went for youngsters from overseas with sell-on potential in a strategy spearheaded by head of recruitment Paddy Reilly and newly appointed sporting director Hendrik Almstadt. Villa signed Jordan Amavi, Jordan Veretout and Adama Traore during the close season.
And who’s being tipped to replace him?
“The games are ticking off and we need to start winning”.
Manager Tim Sherwood is believed to be looking for a change between the sticks with Brad Guzan now having an inconsistent time so far this season, Sherwood is hoping the competition for places between Guzan, Mark Bunn and hopefully Loris Karius will improve the big American’s form.
