ISIS-themed Halloween display has Butler neighbors talking
New Jersey residents are no strangers to controversial Halloween displays-hanging babies were all the rave last year-so it takes a little more than your run-of-the-mill pumpkin massacre or racist Obama display to rouse raised eyebrows. “You know what’s scarier than this thing?”
When it comes to Halloween, tasteless (but undeniably topical) costumes and decorations are near guaranteed – and we’re likely to be seeing a few Cecil the Lions on our streets at the end of the month.
NJ.com identified the homeowner as “Matt”.
One unidentified neighbor said the display was not only an act of terrorism, but was keeping her awake at night.
And while it’s pretty graphic at the moment, Matt now plans to add to the display when Halloween gets closer. The Daily News could not confirm the homeowner’s identity or reach him for comment.
The decorations outside the Cleary Avenue home include a mannequin dressed as a tortured captive of the terrorist group, a hanged mannequin dressed as a murdered soldier and a machete-wielding mannequin dressed as President Obama.
“This is an anti-ISIS setup here”.
The homeowner who erected the display told NJ Advance Media he didn’t believe his decorations were anti-American and that his critics were trying “to stifle his freedom of speech”.
Matt said he took down the Obama mask and doesn’t plan to put it back up because he likes the ski mask better.
“We didn’t mean to offend anybody”, D’Catt told CBS.
The desecrated flag, covered in blood around the hanged soldier’s shoulders, was especially unpatriotic, neighbors said.
Others insisted that Halloween is meant for kids and politics should be left out of it. “That’s not (a house) I would think a lot of parents would want their kids trick or treating at”.
