On October 1st, a massacre took place at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. The killer stepped over her and shot someone else.
The gunman, who has been identified as Christopher Harper-Mercer, 26, stormed into the classroom, shot his professor at point-blank range, then began picking off cowering classmates one at a time as he questioned each about their religion and whether they were Christians, according to survivors’ accounts.
Investigators have not yet said whether they suspect a motive in last Thursday’s shooting, where Harper-Mercer killed eight students and a teacher before killing himself.
“She hears the shooter in front say, ‘You, in that orange shirt, stand up!'” Randy Scoggins said.
“You’re the lucky one”.
Salas said it was like telling the victims “you’re going to be meeting your maker”.
Five victims of the shooting are still in the hospital recovering from their injuries.
LAW ENFORCEMENT officials have not given details about what happened in the classroom. He killed himself as officers arrived at the scene. Harper-Mercer reportedly asked the student to hand it over to police.
“Regardless of our differences with the president on policy issues, we await the president’s arrival and look forward to his show of support for a community who is grieving and whose heartache is immeasurable, especially the families of those killed”, said Susan Morgan, chairwoman of the Douglas County Commission, reading from a statement.
Mintz asked the gunman to stop, saying it was his son’s birthday.
Scroggins firmly believes Anspach, as he was dying, purposely rolled toward Lacey.
His father, Ian Mercer, said he was “just as shocked as everybody” by his son’s actions. His 26-year-old son had been living in Oregon. More funerals are scheduled through Saturday.

Kim Saltmarsh Dietz was a 59-year-old whose daughter was enrolled in the same school but was not injured the shooting.
“We gather for worship today a bit stunned, sorrowful, angry and incredulous”, he said.
The family of 18-year-old Quinn Glen Cooper said he had just started college and loved dancing and voice acting. “Even though I am unable to be physically present with you at this particular moment, know that I am very much united with all of you in spirit and in prayer”. Pastors offered grief counseling at their sanctuaries, the fairgrounds and at a Roseburg nonprofit.
“No, I never met him before”, he said.
Mercer had been discharged from the US Army in 2008 after failing to complete basic training.
It is worth noting that none of the experts quoted or researched for this article blamed guns, gun availability, or gun ownership as a causative factor in these mass shootings.
