Jammu And Kashmir Legislator Attacked Inside House For Hosting Beef Party
Earlier, Karra has asked his party leadership to rethink its alliance with the BJP over the “humiliating flood relief” package. “An honourable member being assaulted in the House”.
Several NC and Congress MLAs rushed to save him.
Rashid, a legislator from Langate, hosted the beef party in the lawns of the MLA hostel on Wednesday.
The MLAs later warned that Rashid would be thrashed all 1000 times if he went ahead and held 1000 beef parties.
NCe leader Omar Abdullah said the assault on floor of the House was impossible to digest. “You are murdering people in broad daylight”.
If immediate legal action is not taken against the accused BJP legislators, they will be emboldened to interfere in other religious matters of the State’s majority Muslim population, Karra said.
The Assembly has been rocked by Opposition protests over the beef ban issue.
“I request Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh to stand up and apologize for the misconduct of the BJP MLAs”, Sayeed said.
“Unfortunately, it will be too late, before BJP and the Sangh Parivar realize the huge damage being caused by their loathly policies to the secular fabric of the country”, he said and added that a fresh wave of alienation a simmering discontent is already visible in Kashmir. It is not good.
However, the BJP members involved in the attack remained defiant saying cow is their mother and nobody has right to hurt their sentiments.
Nirmal Singh condemned the act and described it unfortunate.
“I am still unable to fully understand what happened in the assembly today (Thursday)”.
Responding to a question, Rashid said that by organizing beef party he wanted to convey a message to the government that it should stop interfering in our religious affairs.
The opposition members later staged a walk-out along with Rashid.
“The speaker is the custodian of the house, but we want to know what the chief minister has to say on this most unfortunate incident”, Omar Abdullah said. As soon as I entered the House, the BJP members attacked me.
The beef row erupted after a division bench of High Court in Jammu directed the state to strictly enforce the legal bar on sale of beef. This triggered massive resentment among Muslims of the State.
Legislators MY Tarigami, Sheikh Rashid, Ali Muhammad Sagar, Mohammad Akbar Lone and Mian Altaf Ahmad had moved the bill.
