Google starts deep linking iOS apps from Safari, throws shade at Apple
This means that you will be getting the app content in the search results page for Safari in iOS. App Indexing is now compatible with HTTP deep link standards for iOS 9, as it has been on Android from the beginning. Developers can now add Universal Links to their iOS apps and integrate those links with Google’s app indexing technology called SDK. This will also be very helpful to the end users as they will find an easier integration between the search results and apps.
The deep links won’t be debuting on Safari until late October, but for the meantime, developers can do a few advance reading – Google updated its app indexing resources in line with its recent announcement.
In a Google+ post, the Google Developers team has revealed that the app indexing feature, which was originally released for iOS developers back in May, has now been made compatible with HTTP deep link standards for iOS 9. The results are directly linked to the app that makes it easier for iOS users to carry forward their search in the corresponding app. For us consumers, Google says that we’ll start seeing App Indexing in Safari at the end of October.
This is how new iOS apps and their content will be more visible in Google Search on mobile devices. Deep linking is one of the features that software giants like Google can take advantage of and provide enhanced searching utility for users. Now, Google has announced similar support is coming to Safari, for those on iOS 9. This simply means that app content will now appear in the Google Search results page on Safari.
You can access the link to an iOS app that you are interested in and you will get redirected to the App Store, where you can download the app, or get more info on the app that is already installed on your iPhone or iPad.
Apple usually isn’t all that subtle when it comes to putting down competitors, especially Google.
Also, it has an added feature that integrates the recording capabilities in this.
