An Israeli air strike killed a pregnant Palestinian mother and her three-year-old daughter in the Gaza Strip yesterday and police, confronting a surge of stabbing attacks in Israel, said they foiled an attempt to drive a vehicle bomb into Jerusalem.

On the ground, Palestinian police and intelligence are allowing young people to throw stones, AFP journalists noted.
Emergency workers provided initial medical treatment to a 62-year-old man in moderate condition and a 65-year-old man with light wounds at the site of the attack.
One rocket hit an open field in southern Israel and the other was intercepted.
In Gaza, Palestinians again demonstrated along the Israeli border fence, throwing rocks and rolling burning tires.
Meanwhile, a Palestinian suspect infiltrated the Negohot settlement, also referred to as “the Booster community”, near Hebron, the Israeli military said. Israeli experts agree that the attackers are acting individually and not being organized by Hamas or any other group.
“This weekend we have seen clear incitement encouraging the breach of Israel’s sovereignty, violent confrontation against Israelis and threatening the residence of southern Israel”, said IDF Spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner. It was the second rocket attack in 24 hours. An eighth person hurt in those clashes died Saturday from his injuries.
Gaza and the West Bank may be separated by Israeli territory, but both are meant to constitute a future Palestinian state. “Jerusalem and Aksa is part of the religion”, he said.
