Chiefs fear Jamaal Charles suffered torn ACL in loss
Two straight fourth quarter comebacks and he now has 23 game-winning drives.
Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles injured his knee early in the third quarter and was ruled out by officials for the remainder of Sunday’s 18-17 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday. They put their players into positions to succeed, despite having a roster with so may issues. “I trust the guys around me”, said Cutler, who was making his second start after a hamstring injury.
Wide receivers Alshon Jeffery and Eddie Royal were both out, along with three of the Bears’ starting offensive linemen. He was cutting when his right knee appeared to buckle. If tests on Monday confirm that diagnosis, Charles is done for the season.
The season is only five games old, but the Bears’ defense is proving to be nothing like the porous bunch from the past two seasons.
He was not hit on the play, but grabbed his leg and was helped off the field with the Chiefs leading 17-3.
Reid said the Chiefs were fairly certain that Charles had torn ligaments in his knee when he was helped off the field. After the Bears forced a quick three-and-out, Cutler drove them inside the 10-yard line, where he spotted Forte in the end zone. AFC West rival Denver scored two touchdowns in the final 2:27 for a 31-24 victory last month.
Shortly after the game, Chiefs fans and Jamaal Charles fantasy football owners’ worst nightmare came true.
“We’ll have to see how it checks out tomorrow with the MRI”, Reid added. Maybe for the Kansas City Chiefs, too.
West (5-10, 2015) ran a 4.27 40-yard dash in the scouting combine and better replicates Charles’ skills. Flacco threw consecutive passes to wide receiver Jeremy Ross before scoring from the 1-yard line on a bootleg.
The Bears aren’t a good team yet the Chiefs choked in the end and let them scrap out a victory.
Finally, with his team trailing 17-12 and under a minute to play, Cutler took the snap off the top of his shoes and still managed to throw a attractive pass to Matt Forte in the corner of the end zone for the 7-yard touchdown. It’s just a testament to the coaches and practice. “We’re all fighting for Daniel”.
McPhee, Lamarr Houston and Willie Young all sacked Smith, who was 16-for-30 for 181 yards. It was the third-round draft pick’s first regular-season action after he was inactive in the first four games. Bears coach John Fox improved to 8-1 against Kansas City.
Brady and the Patriots came in averaging almost 40 points in their first three wins.
