I was partially expecting that to happen to this season’s team, starting with the Navy game.

On the season, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish average 261.4 yards in passing and 251.0 yards in rushing.

A second-half commitment to the running game, as well as better defense, helped the Irish pull away late.

As for the outcome, most of Navy’s wounds were self-inflicted. An 18-yard completion to senior wide receiver Chris Brown on third-and-15 led to its first touchdown, and then Fuller snared a 30-yard touchdown from a scrambling Kizer on third-and-eight to give the Irish a 21-7 lead.

Even with Reynolds and a veteran group of talent, this group knows it can’t afford to make any mistakes, especially in the turnover column. Already on thin ice, the Irish may be able to survive another close game against an inferior opponent like they had against Virginia. And both higher ranked teams got embarrassed, sending them plummeting down the polls. But turnovers can do that in any game, right?

“This week we had a different style of preparation”, Kizer said. We’ll go in there and take a shot at them.
