Rumor: Michael B. Jordan wanted as Boba Fett in Star Wars spinoff
Last year, there were actually rumblings that the Boba Fett movie would focus on someone stealing the armour following the events of Return of the Jedi, and if a new rumour is to be believed, it sounds like that’s still the plan. According to Sneider, director F. Gary Gray (Fast & Furious 8, Straight Outta Compton) is not only being considered to direct the spinoff, but already has an actor in mind for the role.
Of course it’s not the first time, Jordan has taken on an originally white role having played Johnny Storm in the recent Fantastic Four reboot, and now Disney’s mandate is to diversify their films both in front of and behind the camera. That leaves literally two possibilities. That raises questions in the Star Wars universe, especially if Boba Fett will be seen without his helmet in his spin-off movie. So why a black director? Sneider also reports that Lucasfilm is eyeing Michael B. Jordan to play Boba Fett in the spinoff, which is part of their A Star Wars Story collection of standalone films – that collection also includes Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One, as well as Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s young Han Solo project. But I just remember hearing somewhere that Michael B. Jordan was rumored for Boba Fett, and I think that F. Gary Gray would make a lot of sense. Neither Temuera Morrison nor Daniel Logan, who played Jango Fett and Boba in Attack of the Clones, respectively, are black. He thinks that Walt Disney Studios is trying really hard to look for a director who isn’t white and male to meet a few kind of diversity quota.
PC users have dug a few of the beta files and find audio files for Boba Fett which they have uploaded on SoundCloud.
