Michigan man fatally shot after he hit officer with crossbow
Authorities from Michigan State Police said an officer in Montcalm County was shot Saturday.
Police were serving an warrant for felonious assault on a 40-year-old man when he used the crossbow, state police said.
Officers with the state police, Lakeview City and Montcalm County sheriff’s deputy went to the Cato Township residence, aspiring to arrest the person.
The state trooper then shot at the man, striking him at least once.
A full and complete investigation of this incident is now underway by the Michigan State Police 6 District Special Investigations Section.
Neighbor Kevin Schultz told MLive.com that there was a confrontation between the man and Schultz’s family on Friday morning, in which the man accused them of stealing his marijuana and later displayed a hunting knife.
The deputy, who was struck in the side, was reported in stable condition Saturday following surgery. “In terms of our policy, obviously, an officer that reasonably believes that there’s imminent danger of death or bodily harm has the right to defend himself or others”.
